Updaing CU5 gives an error

Hidy ho all,

I'm running an Acer Veriton X498G desktop with Windows 8.1 pro X64 on it.  I installed RMS SO up to 2.04 with no difficulties.

Today, I'm trying to practice setting up a register as part of an HQ/store setup by setting my register up as a store all in its own.  And the HQ up on annother machine just across the room from me.

That machine is running HQ and HQ client on 2.06 with no problems.  I have that machine setup with an HQ db, SQL, and pretty much anything else I need as well.

I just tried to install CU5 to bring my machine to the same updates as the HQ machine, and got this error when I started it up.

"Run-time error '-214024894 (80070002)

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SQLServer.Smo, Version 11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken = 89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies.  The system cannot find the file specified."

I have tried doing a repair install, removing it and re-installing, and even tried running a few google searches for answers.  So far nothing seems to have worked.

Has anyone ever seen this error message?  If so, how did you go about fixing it?

Edit: just as an update, I found a forum post online saying this error can sometimes happen if you are using SQL 2008.  And I do have SQL Express 2008 R2.  The solution they suggested was re-installing .net 4.0.  I found an offline installer and ran it, removed the .net framework already on this machine, and installed .net 4.0 again.  Still getting the same error.

I would appreciate any help with this matter.
